Paravan-manikin for sextet

Object created to accompany a staging. Project developed for an unrealized exhibition: Son o no son. Hosting a controversy (Ernesto Oroza, 2024)

Paravan Conjunto para conjunto
Five to seven paravanes, three-bladed, including silhouettes of mannequins, on which are placed sets of clothes designed by me for musical ensembles (sextets) of Son Cubano. The sextet is the minimal ensembles on which the Cuban Son developed. Materials: wood (playwood), fabrics, rope and metal hardware. Each paravan contains six ensembles including pants and shirts, with plain colors. The outfits hang in pairs from wooden silhouettes cut into the plywood. The frames are hinged together. These costumes for musical ensembles, while referring to the origin of the Cuban Son, present a notion of non-subordinated, collaborative collectivity, in opposition to the use of uniforms imposed for ideological reasons on the island.
